This year marks the 200th anniversary of the honeybee in Australia. In 1822 seven honeybee hives arrived on our shores to supply the colony with honey. Today bees provide essential pollination to two-thirds of Australian food crops as well as making the golden honey that sweetens our lives.
To celebrate this anniversary, we are teaming up with our very good friends from The Urban Bee Hive in a class that will inform, instruct and delight. The Urban Bee Hive founder Doug Purdie will tell you how these wonderful creatures work, and why they are so essential for our planet.
Our fermenting queen bee Jaimee will teach you how to make honey wine – mead! You will take 1 litre home in a special fermenter and add your own aromatics. Plus learn the story of this ancient wine.
There will be plenty of honey to taste, a honey snack and a glass of Jaimee's homemade mead! We could not think of a better way to celebrate our bee friends.
